The challenge in designing Marian: was to take the classic story of Robin Hood, and adapt it to be more appealing to a target audience of young women. The focus of the story was shifted from the character of Robin Hood to that of Marian. This is accomplished by focusing all the visuals upon Marian. Marian is portrayed photographically, while all other characters are only represented via illustration. The choice of colors and typography was selected to reference traditional gender divisions, to reinforce the theme of deconstructing the traditional conception of Marian, and well as establish her as a strong, vital character.
